Unaccompanied children face daunting obstacles in navigating the complex U.S. immigration system in pursuit of safety from trafficking, abuse, violence, and other dangers. Without an attorney by their side, it is nearly impossible for these children to receive a full and fair opportunity to seek humanitarian protection for which they may be eligible. Despite this, the Trump Administration recently acted to deprive over 26,000 unaccompanied children of their lawyers.
The Fair Day in Court for Kids Act of 2025, introduced by U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono, would come to the aid of these and other unaccompanied children who would otherwise be on their own. This commonsense legislation would guarantee them legal counsel, helping uphold fundamental fairness and promote an efficient legal process for children who face grave danger. Please, join KIND today and urge your U.S. senators to support this important bill.
